The Medical Administrative Specialist program trains students for employment as Medical Office Specialists. Upon completion of their program, students will seek jobs with the following titles: Medical Receptionists, Medical Office Specialist and Medical Secretaries. Jobs are available in a variety of setting such as hospital, clinics, and physicians��� offices. This program does not prepare students for direct patient care. The content of this program includes, but is not limited to, the use of technology to develop communications skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making skills; medical terminology; the performance of office procedures specific to the medical environment; transcription of medical documents from machine dictation; the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications; research of job opportunities; and job-seeking documents.
This program trains students to become proficient in the following medical office tasks:

Handle patient inquires

Update patient medical records

Schedule patient appointments using computerized medical office software

Patient registration

Handle medical office correspondence

Verify patient insurance

Collect patient co-pays and bill balances

Perform basic medical office bookkeeping

Knowledge of basic medical terminology

Knowledge of current government regulations and laws (HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA).
